4x5 Transparencies Film Facts

Large format transparencies refers to any imaging format of 4×5 inches (102x127 mm) or larger. The main advantage of 4x5 transparencies, film or digital, is higher resolution. A 4x5 transparencies image has about 16 times the area, and thus 16 x the total resolution, of a 35 mm frame. The most common transparencies is 4x5 , which was the size of common cameras used in the 1930s-1950's. Above 8x10 inches, the transparencies are often referred to as Ultra Large Format (ULF) transparencies and may be 11x14, 16x20, 20x24 inches.

CD vs DVD

Having your LF 4x5 film scanned to a disc? You will need to decide if you want a CD or a DVD. A data CD is just like a data DVD, the quality is the exact same. The only difference is that a data DVD holds more data than a CD. So if your order form indicated that you need more than 1 CD, it would be less expensive for you if you chose to have your digital images saved to a data DVD instead.

If you want your LF 4x5 film scanned and saved onto a VIDEO DVD, you will want to order a DVD Video Slideshow.

Scanning Resolution

The Scanning Resolution is one of the most important factors in determining your quality. Scanning Resolution is similar to the concept of megapixels on a digital camera. The higher your scanning resolution, the higher your quality. See a sample of different scanning resolutions.
